Meet the Makers: Central Illinois Aerospace!

We are happy to announce that the Central Illinois Aerospace rocketry club will be joining our ranks as makers this year. For the previous two years they have been at the Faire, and last year they showed us how to make paper saucer rockets, and this year they plan on having another full paper rocket design! They will also be showing rockets, videos, and other rocket paraphernalia the club has built (i.e. launch pads and a launching systems control box). They will have show & tell with a high-powered rocketry covered too.

With a focus on safety, education, and FUN, the CIA holds workshops, and educational programs for schools and other groups, and most importantly, bi-monthly launches.
Thank you CIA for joining our crew of makers at this year’s UCMMF!

A little about the event:

Designed to feature both established and local “makers”, the Urbana-Champaign Maker Faire is a family-friendly celebration featuring rockets and robots, DIY science and technology, alternative energy, bicycles, unique hand-made crafts, music, art, and educational workshop installations. That being said, if possible we would like all projects to be encouraging of participation from an audience of all ages.

The Faire will be held at the Independent Media Center in downtown Urbana from 10am to 4pm held on Saturday, September 21. We’ll provide tables and chairs and electricity(if requested). We’ll handle all the publicity, and we’ll work with you to connect us all through Facebook and Twitter to get the buzz going. We are supported again this year by an Urbana Arts Council grant, so there’s no cost to be a Maker and attendees will get in free.

Have a project idea, or know someone who might? Let us know! We are looking for a diverse group of talented individuals to showcase so Apply Now.
